Raising the Standard
The Bible tells us that when the enemy comes in as a flood God’s Holy Spirit will raise up a standard against him. Have you ever given much thought to exactly what this means? I decided to do a study on it and I will show you what I came up with.
“So shall they fear the name of the LORD from the west, and his glory from the rising of the sun. When the enemy shall come in like a flood, the Spirit of the LORD shall lift up a standard against him.” Isaiah 59:19
The Hebrew word in the above scripture for flood, is “nahar” and means a stream or a river. What is missing in this verse is a comma, after enemy. Most of us are aware the Holy Spirit flows like a river at times but what I want to concentrate on is the “standard” part.
The word standard is a mistranslation in this verse as well because in this scripture the Hebrew word actually is nuwc which means to make flee. So, what this scripture is really saying is,“ “When the enemy shall come in, like a river the Spirit of God will make him flee.”
Well, what about raising a standard? How does this come in? Standard in Hebrew is nec which means “something lifted up, standard, signal, signal pole, ensign, banner, sign, sail, as rallying point, ensign.
The word standard as defined in Webster’s dictionary is – “any figure or object, flag or banner used as a symbol of a leader, people or military unit, a rule or basis for comparison for measurement or judgment,”
“Thus saith the Lord GOD, Behold, I will lift up mine hand to the Gentiles, and set up my standard (nec) to the people: and they shall bring thy sons in their arms, and thy daughters shall be carried upon their shoulders. And kings shall be thy nursing fathers, and their queens thy nursing mothers: they shall bow down to thee with their face toward the earth, and lick up the dust of thy feet; and thou shalt know that I am the LORD: for they shall not be ashamed that wait for me.”
So when God raises a standard, what he is doing is, proclaiming who he is and what he stands for and he does this many times through his church. The church proclaims their allegiance in this world to Jesus Christ and raises the banner of the Lord’s righteousness in the earth, that is the church says “we stand with our king in his army and our standards are his standards” In other words we fly the colors of Jesus Christ which are righteousness, holiness faithfulness, ect.
Raising the standard also concerns spiritual warfare. The church is a witness to the nations of God’s kingdom, and stands against evil in the land. This requires prayer as well as making noise; blowing the trumpet, raising our voices, standing against the enemies evil plans.
“Set ye up a standard in the land, blow the trumpet among the nations, prepare the nations against her, call together against her the kingdoms of Ararat, Minni, and Ashchenaz; appoint a captain against her; cause the horses to come up as the rough caterpillers.” Jeremiah 51:27
Raising the standard requires boldness and faith in the face of evil and opposition. “You have given a banner to those who fear you, that it may be displayed because of the truth.” Psalm 60:4
A standard also means moral excellence and a measurement of value, as well as a model of authority. The church is a sign to the world systems of God’s glory that is flown high like a flag with the emblem of Jehovah-Nissi – ( the Lord is my banner of victory. ) upon it.
Raising a standard also means to mobilize the army against the enemy. When the European royal kingdoms went to war they raised a standard which represented who they were and what they stood for. In battle there were those who went before the armies with their banner raised and when they had won the land they planted their flag in the area that was conquered.
In Exodus 17, Joshua led the men out to fight against Amalek while Moses stood on top of a hill with the rod of God in raised hands. Moses rod was a sign of authority, signifying a raised banner. When intercessors pray against the devil’s works they are also raising the standard, defying the devil’s rights to hold ground and proclaiming God’s victory through Jesus Christ. We remind Mr. Devil that he must get out because a greater one is here! The Lord our banner!
“Having disarmed principalities and powers, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them in it.” Colossians 2:15
“And in that day there shall be a Root of Jesse, Who shall stand as a banner to the people; For the Gentiles shall seek Him, And His resting place shall be glorious.” Isaiah 11:10
Jesus Christ is our banner! His victory is our victory when we proclaim him as Savior and Lord in the earth and when we do that we are raising the standard!
“All inhabitants of the world and dwellers on the earth: When he lifts up a banner on the mountains, you see it; And when he blows a trumpet, you hear it. “ Isaiah 18:3

Pleading the Blood of Jesus
One of the weapons of our warfare is to remind the devils of the blood covenant paid for us by Jesus Christ. Some people call this “pleading” the blood of Jesus. While there is no direct reference to this term there is scriptural reference to the idea of reminding the enemy of our position in Jesus Christ.
This form of spiritual warfare is attacked by some Christians and the devil really likes it! This is because the devil hates to be reminded that he is a defeated foe. While our position in the new covenant is as blood bought new creations, the devil will not acknowledge this. Let me explain.
Jesus is our mediator, or lawyer. One who advocates for another. In a court of law the rule of law must be put forth to the judge to define the offense, this is done by the prosecution or the accuser of the brethren. Then the advocate brings the defense. The defense is, this, the blood of Jesus cleanses us from all unrighteousness.
Some Christians fail to see that the accuser still stands before the court of God to accuse and Jesus stands there in mediation. This is his job today! At the right hand of God Jesus makes our defense. When scriptures say,”It is finished” it means that it is finished but that does not mean there is no opposition to this. For example, a law set in place in our judicial system may not be acknowledged by a criminal so it must be enforced and that is why we have police and lawyers. It is the same way in God’s kingdom and just so you know, our common law system is built on the principals of Mosaic Law.
Why do you think that Christians need to have spiritual weapons and fight spiritual warfare? Those who ignore these Biblical concepts may find that their lives are not going to be protected. God himself said, “MY PEOPLE perish for lack of knowledge.” Ignorance of the devil’s devises is dangerous to your welfare on this earth. God has given us spiritual principles in his word and he expects us to use them.I am someone who believes in the sovereignty of God but I also know that God’s sovereignty is applied as he wills by the means he wills.
For example, if God wants someone saved, he will raise up prayer and the preaching of the word to get that person saved. If you don’t believe that then tell me why Jesus needed a fish and a loaf to multiply to feed the people and why he needed water to turn to wine and why he needed prophetic acts by the prophets? No, not because he is kooky but because the principles of the kingdom have spiritual protocol or spiritual laws that must be applied.
Just as there are natural laws that govern the universe there are spiritual laws that govern the kingdom of God. For example, Jesus said in the Bible, give and it will be given to you, seek and you will find, ask and you will be given, ect. These are laws that govern the kingdom of God. We are not saved by any laws but spiritual principals are spiritual laws like the law of gravity is a natural law. Now to come to my point, the spiritual law of applying the blood covenant to a given situation.
We know that the blood of Jesus cleanses from sin. Not just our sin yesterday but any sin tomorrow. The devil will use any un-confessed sin to destroy you. We need to acknowledge our sin and confess it to God and ask for his help in delivering us from that sin.
“But if we walk in the light, as He is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanseth us from all sin.” 1 John 1:7
“For this is My blood of the new covenant, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.” Matthew 26:28
“In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace.” Ephesians 1:7
“But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been made near by the blood of Christ.” Ephesians 2:13
“For the life of the flesh is in the blood … for it is the blood that makes atonement for the soul.” Leviticus 17:11
The Bible tells us that the devil accuses the Christian night and day before God and he has a case if the sin is un-confessed. Satan can cause a lot of havoc in the Christian’s life who has un-confessed sin. However, when the sin is confessed and brought to the light and forsaken, which means that you forsake the love of your sin and embrace the Holy Spirit’s power to defeat that sin by yielding or surrendering to God taking control of it, you can be set free.
Now if you try to give up your sin by your will power you will eventually fall back into it. Asking the Holy Spirit to change your heart and make it line up with his will is the principle of the kingdom of God and not old law keeping which has no power to defeat sin.
Let me show you what the Bible says about the power of the blood of Jesus as a weapon of our warfare.
“… that through death He might destroy him who had the power of death, that is, the devil, and release those who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage.” Hebrews 2:14
“He has delivered us from the power of darkness and translated us into the kingdom of the Son of His love, in whom we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins.” Colossians 1:13
“Having disarmed principalities and powers, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them in it.” Colossians 2:15
“For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that He might destroy the works of the devil.” (1 John 3:8)
“And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, and they did not love their lives to the death.” Revelation 12:11
Behold, I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you.” Luke 10:19
“How much more shall the blood of Christ…purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?” Hebrews 9:14
Pleading is a legal term of advocacy and it means a law of presenting a case in court as by a lawyer on behalf of his client. In other words it is a legal defense. So when we plead the blood of Jesus, we are putting forth our advocate’s defense to the prosecution and when we do this we are justified in our situation.
While Jesus paid the price for sin ONCE for all, we must continually plead our defense when we fall into sin and we do this all the time because we are not yet made perfect. This makes the devil a defeated foe in our lives because we have God’s defense against sin and that is the blood of Jesus!
Father in Jesus name I plead the blood of Jesus on my life because Jesus continually lives to make intercession for me. I acknowledge that I am not perfect and I ask for you to help me in my weaknesses by the power of your Holy Spirit, in the name of my advocate and Savior Jesus Christ, Amen.
In the name of Jesus
Did you ever wonder why the Bible tells us that we have authority in the name of Jesus and yet scriptures plainly tell us that one can believe in another Jesus? That is, a person can believe in a Jesus which is one of their own imagination, understanding, or organized religion and he is not the Jesus of the Bible.
“Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. Many [again note that Christ said “MANY”] will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? And in thy name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.” Matthew 7:21-23.
First of all let us examine the premise; one can believe in another Jesus who is not the Jesus of the Bible.
• Paul says, “For if someone comes and proclaims another Jesus than the one we proclaimed, or if you receive a different spirit from the one you received, or if you accept a different gospel from the one you accepted, you put up with it readily enough.” 2 Corinthians 11:4
• Paul warns “I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel: Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ. But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed. As we said before, so say I now again, If any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed.” Galatians 1:6-9
So as you can see from scriptures, it is very possible to be converted to a false gospel and believe in a false Jesus too. Now, check out these scriptures.
• For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many.”
Many (an innumerable amount)
Will come in my name (on behalf of)
Saying, “I am the Christ.” Or in other words I am anointed of God.
And shall deceive many- to cause (someone) to believe something that is not true; in order to gain a personal advantage.
• On judgment day many will say to me, ‘Lord! Lord! We prophesied in your name and cast out demons in your name and performed many miracles in your name.’ Matthew 7:22
On that day- judgment day
Many will say to be- (an innumerable amount)
Lord, Lord- these claim to know him. As they address him as master.
We prophesied in your name-spoke in his behalf, saying God told them thus
Works in your name- miracles, virtuous deeds, moral power, force
Now to my point; In order to use someone’s name legitimately, or perform legal action in the name of another, act on their behalf, proxy: one must be authorized to use that name. If you will notice, Jesus said to those using his name and doing works in his name and being rejected for it at judgment day, Jesus said, I NEVER KNEW YOU. He did not say, “I once knew you, but I do not know you now, he said NEVER, and never means never. ( at no time in the past or future; on no occasion; not ever)
However, these people going about doing works in Jesus name thought that they knew him! They called him Lord! They even thought that they were doing miracles in his name. But were they really? I have noticed that many doing so called miracles hardly ever get doctor verification or witnesses for their so called miracles. Seriously! Why not?
Now I am not saying that God does not perform miracles, but what I am saying is that many deceivers also claim they are doing miracles in Jesus name. So, miracles are not a sign of a true Christian with authority to use the name of Jesus by proxy (agent, deputy, emissary, representative)
This is why the Bible says to test the spirits. And prove ALL things. There are false” anointed ones” out their claiming to know Jesus, when in fact, they believe in another Jesus and preach another gospel. (One made up in the minds of men and not based on scriptures. )
Always check out what the person is preaching, even if they make you think someone is getting a miracle or even if there is a bonafide miracle because yes, Satan can perform miracles, scriptures attest to this. For example, New age healing and many other kinds of mumbo jumbo have actually healed people, such as hypnosis, mind control, new age spirit healing ect.
Even preachers could be doing healings and miracles by demons and have a false anointing (another spirit)
“The coming of the lawless one will be in accordance with how Satan works. He will use all sorts of displays of power through signs and wonders that serve the lie,” 2Thess. 2:9
“for they are spirits of demons, performing signs, which go out to the kings of the whole world, to gather them together for the war of the great day of God, the Almighty.” Revelation 16:14
“If a prophet or a dreamer of dreams arises among you and gives you a sign or a wonder, and the sign or the wonder comes true, concerning which he spoke to you, saying, ‘Let us go after other gods (whom you have not known) and let us serve them,’” Deut. 3:1-12
“For false Christs and false prophets will arise and will show great signs and wonders, so as to mislead, if possible, even the elect.” Matthew 24:24
In order to use the name of Jesus legitimately we must be born again, called by him, and be in obedience to scriptures. Many of these false anointed ones preach things contrary to scriptures. They also are very good at making up a lot of subjective stuff too. Make sure all preaching you receive can be backed up with scriptures comparing scriptures. Sometimes these sneaky false deceivers will speak great big swelling words as scriptures tell us. In other words they are silver tongued.
“For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ. And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light. Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works.” 2Corinthians 11:13 -15
“Now there was a man of the Pharisees named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews. This man came to Jesus by night and said to him, “Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher come from God, for no one can do these signs that you do unless God is with him.” Jesus answered him, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God.” Nicodemus said to him, “How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother’s womb and be born?” Jesus answered, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. “John 3:1-15
Scriptures give us safe guards against false prophets, teacher, apostles, pastors, evangelists. Here are some things to watch for.
• Bad fruit- sexual sins, lying, cheating, faking, stealing
• False teachings- (non scriptural, adding to or taking away from the Bible or misconstruing in order to pervert or change)
• Greedy for gain- always asking for money, fleece the sheep in order to live high on the hog
• Braggarts-always boasting about themselves as some great one, vain, self exaggerated.
• Prophesying for money- you have to pay exorberent amount of money to hear them speak.
• They give false words that do not come to pass.
• They will tell you that there is another way to come to salvation, that Jesus is not enough or that he is not really God.
• They do not like the grace of Christ and prefer the works of the law.
• They scatter the sheep by abuse of power
• They are sensual, of this world, love the world, and preach the exploits of this world.
• They preach flattering words that the people want to hear but never subjects that deal with sin.
• They pervert the grace of God into sensuality. In other words they say that you can live a lifestyle of sin and be saved. This is not true! If you are really saved then you will live separated from the world and its evil.
Woe to them! For they walked in the way of Cain and abandoned themselves for the sake of gain to Balaam’s error and perished in Korah’s rebellion. Jude 11
For such persons do not serve our Lord Christ, but their own appetites, and by smooth talk and flattery they deceive the hearts of the naive. Romans 6:18
“Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. Matthew 7:21
“But the prophet who presumes to speak a word in my name that I have not commanded him to speak, or who speaks in the name of other gods, that same prophet shall die.’ And if you say in your heart, ‘How may we know the word that the Lord has not spoken?’— when a prophet speaks in the name of the Lord, if the word does not come to pass or come true, that is a word that the Lord has not spoken; the prophet has spoken it presumptuously. You need not be afraid of him.” Deut. 18:20-22
“Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. John 14:16
An appalling and horrible thing has happened in the land: the prophets prophesy falsely, and the priests rule at their direction; my people love to have it so, but what will you do when the end comes? “Jer. 5: 30,31
“You are of your father the devil, and your will is to do your father’s desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, and has nothing to do with the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks out of his own character, for he is a liar and the father of lies.” John 8:44
“I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting him who called you in the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel— not that there is another one, but there are some who trouble you and want to distort the gospel of Christ. But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach to you a gospel contrary to the one we preached to you, let him be accursed. As we have said before, so now I say again: If anyone is preaching to you a gospel contrary to the one you received, let him be accursed.” Gal. 1:6-9
“I did not send the prophets, yet they ran; I did not speak to them, yet they prophesied.” Jer.23:21
“And her prophets have smeared whitewash for them, seeing false visions and divining lies for them, saying, ‘Thus says the Lord God,’ when the Lord has not spoken.” Ezk.22:28
“Its heads give judgment for a bribe; its priests teach for a price; its prophets practice divination for money; yet they lean on the Lord and say, “Is not the Lord in the midst of us? No disaster shall come upon us.” Micah 3:11
“Yet in like manner these people also, relying on their dreams, defile the flesh, reject authority, and blaspheme the glorious ones. But when the archangel Michael, contending with the devil, was disputing about the body of Moses, he did not presume to pronounce a blasphemous judgment, but said, “The Lord rebuke you.” But these people blaspheme all that they do not understand, and they are destroyed by all that they, like unreasoning animals, understand instinctively. Woe to them! For they walked in the way of Cain and abandoned themselves for the sake of gain to Balaam’s error and perished in Korah’s rebellion. These are hidden reefs at your love feasts, as they feast with you without fear, shepherds feeding themselves; waterless clouds, swept along by winds; fruitless trees in late autumn, twice dead, uprooted;” Jude 8: 8-16
“Woe to the shepherds who destroy and scatter the sheep of my pasture!” declares the Lord. Therefore thus says the Lord, the God of Israel, concerning the shepherds who care for my people: “You have scattered my flock and have driven them away, and you have not attended to them. Behold, I will attend to you for your evil deeds, declares the Lord. Then I will gather the remnant of my flock out of all the countries where I have driven them, and I will bring them back to their fold, and they shall be fruitful and multiply. I will set shepherds over them who will care for them, and they shall fear no more, nor be dismayed, neither shall any be missing, declares the Lord. “Behold, the days are coming, declares the Lord, when I will raise up for David a righteous Branch, and he shall reign as king and deal wisely, and shall execute justice and righteousness in the land. ” Jer. 23:1-40
“And in their greed they will exploit you with false words. Their condemnation from long ago is not idle, and their destruction is not asleep.” 2 Peter 2:3
“They have seen false visions and lying divinations. They say, ‘Declares the Lord,’ when the Lord has not sent them, and yet they expect him to fulfill their word.” Ezek.13:6
“But false prophets also arose among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you, who will secretly bring in destructive heresies, even denying the Master who bought them, bringing upon themselves swift destruction. And many will follow their sensuality, and because of them the way of truth will be blasphemed. And in their greed they will exploit you with false words. Their condemnation from long ago is not idle, and their destruction is not asleep. For if God did not spare angels when they sinned, but cast them into hell and committed them to chains of gloomy darkness to be kept until the judgment; if he did not spare the ancient world, but preserved Noah, a herald of righteousness, with seven others, when he brought a flood upon the world of the ungodly;” .2 Peter 2:1-22
“And the Lord said to me: “The prophets are prophesying lies in my name. I did not send them, nor did I command them or speak to them. They are prophesying to you a lying vision, worthless divination, and the deceit of their own minds. Therefore thus says the Lord concerning the prophets who prophesy in my name although I did not send them, and who say, ‘Sword and famine shall not come upon this land’: By sword and famine those prophets shall be consumed. And the people to whom they prophesy shall be cast out in the streets of Jerusalem, victims of famine and sword, with none to bury them—them, their wives, their sons, and their daughters. For I will pour out their evil upon them.” Jeremiah 14: 14-16
“For, speaking loud boasts of folly, they entice by sensual passions of the flesh those who are barely escaping from those who live in error. They promise them freedom, but they themselves are slaves of corruption. For whatever overcomes a person, to that he is enslaved.” 2 Peter 2: 18,19
“For certain people have crept in unnoticed who long ago were designated for this condemnation, ungodly people, who pervert the grace of our God into sensuality and deny our only Master and Lord, Jesus Christ.” Jude 1:4
In conclusion, God gives authority in his name (JESUS) to his sheep that are known by him. What this means is, that when a Christian represents Jesus Christ in proxy, then the authority they are given is onoma (GREEK) which means to come in his character and likeness.
The Bible does not give license to use Jesus name as a magic formula for whatever we want, but rather as a representative of Jesus, you have authority to be like him in character so that you represent him to the world. Christian means Christ like.
In Hebrew culture, a name represents the person, so to put the name of Jesus to something we must make sure that we take his name as sacred, according to his character described in the Bible and not in vain. Taking Jesus name in vain means to use the name of Jesus without producing the results of his character and word. Christians have authority in the name of Jesus to represent him to the world, so if one is misrepresenting him in this world they will be judged for that.
On Judgment day we will give account for how we lived as a representative of Jesus Christ in this world and not based on how many miracles were performed in our ministry. Satan is a very crafty liar and deceiver. Many calling themselves anointed of God are nothing more than deceivers who represent their father the devil. Do not follow after them or their judgment will be our judgment. Be wise and check out everything you hear and see in these last days, for many will come in Jesus name claiming to know him and be his representative but they are not. You will know them by their fruit.
